The Basic Margarita Recipe
When you think of margaritas you might be picturing a Slurpee machine that spits out neon colored slush with some tequila mixed in. Those are a disgrace to how the margarita is traditionally made and should really only exist at the dives on Fremont Street in Vegas!
There are three ingredients that go into a margarita; tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. You don’t even need fancy tequila or Grand Marnier as long as you get the ratios right between the ingredients. Top shelf ingredients will make the drink smoother, but the average person would never know the difference.
All you have to remember is 2-1-1. Two parts tequila to one part of both triple sec and juice. Be sure to measure, rather than eyeball it, because throwing off that ratio just a little bit will screw the taste of the drink up. Basing your ratio off of two shots of tequila will fit perfect in a highball glass filled with ice.
If you want salt on the glass, put some rock or kosher salt on a plate, slide a lime wedge around the edge of the glass, then dip it into the salt.
I do mine on the rocks without salt, but if you wanted to blend it up, just toss everything into the blender and give it a few pulses.
Margarita Pic (I had a few too many to take my own pics last night…)
